This is an artifact that was carved in the form of a scarab beetle. The scarab beetle was one of the most popular amulets in ancient Egypt because the insect was a symbol of the sun God Ra. The base of the scarab was usually inscribed with designs and hieroglyphs to form an seal. Date: Dynasty 18, reign of Hatshepsut, 1473–1458 BC. |
