Shabti
Description & Signifcance:
The figure wears the 'nemes' head-dress of a king, emphasized by the cobra on his brow. The shabti holds a hoe in each hand, indicating that the shabti must do the work that its owner is expected to do in the Afterlife. and the artifact is coated with layers of Egyptian Blue pigment. This artifact is also part of the ancient Egyptian burial tradition. Date: 19th Dynasty, around 1290 BC. |
